Adopt A School - Bordesley Village !!!

Bordesley Village is very pleased to be working with The Birmingham Mail as their Adopt A

School. This is part of the "Born and Read in Brum" programme to encourage children and

adults to read for pleasure.

The programme will focus on year one pupils and the Birmingham Mail are supporting us by

roviding a range of events and personalities to inspire pupils to read.

In September the programme was launched with a story telling event . We had a fantastic

response and the children were entertained by a professional story teller and also

Olympic skier Graham Bell who enthralled youngsters with a story-telling session .

The sports star visited us to unveil our new look library which has undergone a £3,500 makeover.

Peters Books & Furniture funded the library transformation, providing plush comfortable seating, shelving and a huge rug for children to sit on during storytime.

The walls are now lined with images from famous children’s books, including Julia Donaldson’s best-selling The Gruffalo.

Over the next year, the Mail will take Year 1 pupils on educational trips around Birmingham, each with a reading theme at the heart of the visits.

Headteacher Alayne Clowes said: “The children are very excited and we are so proud of the library.

“If this initiative raises the profile of reading across the city then we would be so thrilled to have been a part of that.”

Ray Dyer, sManaging Director of Peters Books & Furniture, said: “The enthusiasm of Mrs Clowes and her team for reading and making sure that the pupils have access to books is infectious.

“It was one of the reasons we did not hesitate to offer our help.”
